He explores the two worlds of his childhood: the barren urban landscape where his parents’ house was an anomalous bright spot, and the Eden-like school they sent him to in white suburbia. He writes about struggling to reconcile his Christian identity with his sexuality, the exhaustion of code-switching in college, accidentally getting famous on the internet (for the wrong reason), and the surreal experience of covering the 2016 election for Elle online, and the seismic changes that came thereafter. As the world continues to shift in unpredictable ways, Thomas finds the answers to these questions by reenvisioning what “normal” means and in the powerful alchemy that occurs when you at last place yourself at the center of your own story.

Here for It will resonate deeply and joyfully with everyone who has ever felt pushed to the margins, struggled with self-acceptance, or wished to shine more brightly in a dark world. In his new canvas pants and thickening muscles, Max feels like he’s “playing dress-up.” That is until he meets Pan, the school “witch,” in Physics class: “Pan in his all black. Pan with his goth choker and the gel that made his hair go straight up.” Suddenly, Max feels seen, and the pair embarks on a consuming relationship: Max tells Pan about his supernatural powers, and Pan tells Max about the snake poison initiations of the local church. Focusing on Anglo-American fiction written in the advent and aftermath of the Wilde scandal of 1895 and in the period following World War II but before the Stonewall Inn riots of 1969, Gay Fictions aims not so much at establishing a canon of modern gay literature as exploring important representative texts that simultaneously reflect and reflect on the status of gay people during these crucial decades. Among the texts examined are works by Oscar Wilde, Willa Cather, E. M. Forester, Gore Vidal, Truman Capote, Tennessee Williams, Mary Renault, James Baldwin, and Christopher Isherwood. The novels and stories explored in Gay Fictions are products of particular and immediate social contexts, but they also transcend their historical moments and continue to speak to the question of what it means to be homosexual, a question that is important not only to gay people but also to all who value justice and diversity. By focusing on these works, this book shows the changing face of this experience and itself makes a vital contribution to the literature of gay liberation.

First Edition - Hard Cover

Condition: Used in good shape (some sun fading on cover)

ISBN: 0-8264-0466-9

Donated by Larry Lingle - Lobo Books

When Peter Watson was murdered in his bath by a jealous boyfriend in 1956, the art world lost one of its wealthiest, most influential patrons. This compellingly attractive man, adored by Cecil Beaton; a man who was called a legend by contemporaries, who was the subject of two scandalous novels, and who helped launch the careers of Francis Bacon, John Craxton and Lucian Freud, fell victim to a fortune - hungry lover. Elegant and hungrily sexual, Peter Watson had a taste for edgy, disreputable boyfriends. He was the unrequited love of Cecil Beaton's life - his 'queer saint' - but Peter preferred the risk of edgier, less sophisticated lovers, including the beautiful, volatile, drug - addicted prostitute Denham Fouts. Peter's thirst for adventure took him through the cabaret culture of 1930s Berlin, the demi - monde and aristocratic salons of pre - war Paris, English high society, and the glitz of Hollywood's golden age. Gore Vidal described him as 'a charming man, tall, thin, perverse. One of those intricate English queer types who usually end up as field marshals, but because he was so rich he never had to do anything.' Truman Capote called him 'not just another rich queen, but - in a stooped, intellectual, bitter - lipped style - one of the most personable men in England'. More than just a gay playboy, Peter Watson was a renowned connoisseur, and fuelled the engine of mid - 20th century art with his enormous wealth. Without his patronage, Bacon and Freud might have failed before they'd got started. He also founded the influential British arts journal Horizon with Cyril Connolly and Stephen Spender, and was one of the core founders of the Institute of Contemporary Arts, and organised most of its early exhibitions. From the mystery of his obscure family origins to the enigma surrounding his premature death, this book follows Peter Watson through an odyssey of the middle 20th century, from high society to sweaty underworld, and discovers a man tormented by depression and doubt; he ultimately wanted love and a sense of self - worth but instead found angst and a squalid death.

Hardcover - 2015

Used in great condition

Donated by Larry Lingle - Lobo Books

Peter Berlin revolutionized the landscape of gay male eroticism in the tradition of Tom of Finland

Peter Berlin was a self-created icon. It begins in the San Francisco of the early 1980s, when Ed and Bob have been broken up for a while. aIds is spreading, but Ed has yet to receive his diagnosis. It follows him backward through his life with Bob in the 1970s and forward through the harrowing particulars of death.
