The Little Gay Shop is a queer marketplace devoted to uplifting the voices and artistry of LGBTQIA+ identifying artists, makers, authors and more. We do this by managing an inclusive and welcoming retail space, by creating an interconnected community of artists and patrons, and by amplifying a diverse range of voices and views.
Our role at The Little Gay Shop is to promote our ever-growing community of creators by selling their work and bringing awareness to their art. The Little Gay Shop is the only store of its kind to center completely around queer artists and makers.
Summary of role:
The Retail Assistant Manager will oversee all of the daily operations of the store(s) and online. As a leader of the brand, you need to be passionate about delivering exceptional levels of customer service, driving sales and KPI’s, and managing projects. You will oversee training, coaching, and development of the team. You will be a leader in motivating and engaging staff to ensure that they represent The Little Gay Shop values and understand our goals. You will also participate and lead in regular team meetings to create seamless communication with the staff.
Day to Day Role Responsibilities:

Partner with the brand owners to carry out quarterly touch bases and annual performance reviews for each team member.
- Create, assign, and manage daily tasks for our team of sales associates. Train and coach them on sales techniques, new initiatives, , and more to ensure seamless operations in the retail store(s).
- Responsible for the development of the team by providing on the job training and assessing progress, through written reviews and probations.
- Partner with the brand owners to create, implement, and test new initiatives to help grow the business.
- Review the team performance and provide immediate feedback (both positive and constructive).
- Ensure the relationship between e-commerce, retail and events are running flawlessly by managing inventory, managing customer outreach and communication and ensuring the team is following correct protocols.
- Manage store inventory to ensure it is accurate and representative.
- Ensure all HR policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Protect proprietary information relevant to the business. Comply with data and information protection, including reports, financial information, passwords, logins, account information, etc.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and written.
- Ensure the retail shop is always presented and merchandised to the highest standards whilst maintaining focus on the most profitable items and ensuring delivery of the retail KPIs.
- Focus on increasing sales, AOV and UPT to drive margin and profit and achieve target sales goals.
- Understand daily, weekly and monthly store goals, clearly identifying what this means in terms of sales, profitability, costs, staffing levels and ensuring this information is communicated effectively to the team.
- Ensure the shop is tidy, clean, organized and full at all times.
- Ensure that the opening and closing procedures are adhered to including processes, documentation, communication, and project status.
- Reduce stock loss in store. Observes safety and security procedures. Reports any misuse or theft of stock to the brand owners.
- Plan and prioritize workloads, and delegate accordingly.

- Plan for a flexible approach to working hours, including weekends, travel, holidays and more.
- Oversee all aspects of supply ordering for retail location(s).
- Required to work non-traditional hours; weekends, evenings and occasional holidays.
- Required to expect and accept “blackout” dates around scheduling for peak business seasons.

This role is very independent, so we expect the person to develop creative and innovative solutions to problems on the spot.
