Part time - Events Coordinator:
Location: WFH and On location - Austin TX and Surrounding areas
The Little Gay Shop is a queer marketplace devoted to uplifting the voices and artistry of LGBTQIA+ identifying artists, makers, authors and more. We do this by managing an inclusive and welcoming retail space, by creating an interconnected community of artists and patrons, and by amplifying a diverse range of voices and views.
Our role at The Little Gay Shop is to promote our ever-growing community of creators by selling their work and bringing awareness to their art. The Little Gay Shop is the only store of its kind to center completely around queer artists and makers.
About You:
When you work here, you’ll become part of an innovative team responsible for educating, growing, and redefining our queer community.
You will help manage the day-to-day operations of events and community programs. This includes maintaining internal and external event calendars. You will contribute to our digital communication efforts. You will work hand in hand with the Events acquisition managers and brand operations managers. You will also run select on and off site events. You should be an outgoing, natural leader who isn't afraid to take initiative and run with projects of varying levels of direction. You thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
You will be the brand representative surrounding all things community and events. This means representing The Little Gay Shop in the fullest. Being present and constantly engaging with other community partners for all events and community activations.
While at events, you’ll be responsible for informing guests of new artists, books, magazines and more. Our shop is the only place to find many of our products, so we pride ourselves on curating a diverse and unique selection of goods for sale. To you, talking with people about queer art, books and fun products you love isn't considered work.
You will educate guests on community events, projects, and initiatives at the store, and create meaningful, authentic interactions with patrons to ensure they feel included in our queer family.
Most of all, you will be working with some amazing people who are here to support you and your growth.
Responsibilities:
- Reports directly to TLGS Owners
- Support and lead markets, events, and collaborations at the store or on-site in other locations.
- Works directly with TLGS owners to implement new events and community activations.
- Represent The Little Gay Shop brand by authentically engaging with customers and community partners.
- Be positive and supportive to all members of the team, patrons, and community partners.
- Maintain healthy knowledge of the products we carry and artists we work with.
- Execute all requirements concerning OSHA to maintain a safe working atmosphere for all Store Associates.
- Effectively complete customer transactions using the POS system.
Qualifications and Attributes
- At least 1 year of customer service experience.
- Must be at least 21 years old to apply.
- Must provide your own transportation with the ability to transport product and supplies for a pop up market. These items may include; A pop up tent, up to two 6 ft folding tables, bins of product and more.
- Previous experience working in events with various retail operations, such as POS, customer service, and sales is preferred but not required.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills founded on an authentic ability to deliver strong customer service.
- Awareness of current technology, trends, and best practices in retail and digital marketing.
- Required to work non-traditional hours; weekends, evenings and occasional holidays.
- Required to expect and accept “blackout” dates around scheduling for peak business seasons.
- Outgoing, natural leader who takes initiative and can independently manage and complete projects with minimal direction.
- Has a willingness and open mindset to learn and be challenged.
Physical Requirements:
- Operate office equipment and technology (i.e. computers, phones, label maker, printer/copier, etc.).
- Standing is often required for an entire work shift and events.
- Bend, lift, open, and move product up to 50 pounds as needed.
