During the 2024-2025 school year, PEN America recorded 6,870 instances of book bans across 23 states and 87 public school districts. Since July 2021, PEN Index records 22,810 cases of book bans across 45 states and 451 public school districts.
Texas ranks second in the nation with the most books banned.
